Though, seriously, is anyone really surprised anymore? Honestly?

I don't think a lot of my flist is involved in the slash side of fanfiction, but I know a lot of you are involved in HP and/or Buffy. So, here's my PSA on the subject.

The entire thing is being followed [here], if you want to keep up to date.

However, the summary is this....

hotspur18 is being accused of plagiarisng [this fic] by setissma. (I would link to hotspur18's post of the story, but it's been deleted.) sheafrotherdon has links to screencaps of the 'fic'. I read bits of it when it was first brought to my attention, and I have to say, there's no denying it. She changed a Harry/Draco (HP) fic into a Wesley/Lindsey (Angel), by essentially doing find-replace on the names, 'fade to black' on the sex scene, and modifying a few of the overt phrases that would identify it as HP fic.

What really takes the cake, is that she has [apologized] and removed all her 'solo' fic. (And by 'removed', we really mean 'flocked' - that's the concensus, anyways.) My personal opinion, based on the tone of the 'apology' and the wording, is that this isn't the first time she's plagiarized fic (as evidenced by the removal of fic), only the first time she's been caught. With fic, anyway. There's a post somewhere earlier in her journal where she apparently admits to stealing someone's manip, but it seems to have gotten flocked with everything else.

I don't know how much flak she's taken from fandom for this, because she's been screening comments left-right-centre. However, I do know that the 'fic' was 'written' for a ficathon, and has since been removed from the master list, with Deleted due to plagiarism (bolding not mine), permanent banishment from the community and a community-wide post on no-tolerance for plagiarism.

It always boggles my mind how people think they can hide stuff like this on the internet.
