WIP meme - welcome to my wormhole

Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence. Some have 2 sentences, because I apparently write half-formed thoughts.
1) “She's barely fit for the general public, let alone a place like Sunnydale.”
2)It was a sad state of affairs when a bad come-on from a guy labelled as 'sex on legs' reduced her to laughter. - untitled Hollywood!AU
3) “I’m telling you, Mac. He came back with a girl,” announced Richie, pointing with his beer bottle.
4)”Parker? What’s going on? Nate’s voice in her ear barely causes her to twitch, but it’s enough of a movement for Ezra to notice and catalogue. - The Reunion Job
5) Don didn’t know if Banks was the best actor Don had ever seen, or if he truly had no idea that his girlfriend had been an FBI agent.
6)“Would you like that?” she asks him softly, painting a picture she’s sure will get him interested in all the right ways. “Charlie can do the math, tell us where to go, who to hit - we’ll take out the radios and cell towers first; a series of secondary explosions for maximum casualties. This place could be rubble in a matter of days.” - Darker Shades of Morning
7) Sam clenches his fists against the remembered snap of vertebrae, feeling the cooling slick of blood on his hands and arms.
8) She inked more tramp stamps and ‘I love mom’ hearts than she thought possible, and learned that she was better when given free reign with a design than just a simple shape.
9) Fornell had been right; she was running out of job opportunities.
10) Willow had never felt so old as she did staring at the pleading face of one of the newest NCIS field agents.
11) “Well, you're not my problem.” he told her, and Willow thought she could detect a hint of softening in his tone, but it may have been her imagination. “I don't deal with problems like yours. I have enough of my own.”
12) Still, despite everything, Willow is surprised to find Dean waiting outside the diner as she closes up.
Conclusion: I have ADD. I also appear to be addicted to crossovers, though this was never in doubt. (I will point out that 4/12 are non-crossovers. Take that! HA!!)
This may become my official WIP list, though I have 2 projects ahead of all of these. Any preference for completion order? If you can pick out the 4 non-crossovers, I'll let you decide which one I complete next!

14valentines and Me! (And You, too.)
Jan. 5th, 2009 11:36 pmI've decided I'm going to give
14valentines a shot again this year. For those who are unaware of what this community is all about, go check it out. Every day from Feb 1- Feb 14, an essay is posted in the comm about an issue that affects women. It could be domestic violence, body image, health, education, etc... People around LJ participate by posting something in their own journal, linking to the post of that day. Each day, the linked posts are listed for everybody to view and browse.
Posting in your own LJ can be however you want. It started out with people posting a story per day with a link to the essay of the day, but it can be however you want. Some people who post stories or image make the theme match the topic of the day, others don't. Some people post lists of links, recipes, patterns or recs. Last year, I alternated between a story and a rec post (go [here] to see my contributions).
This year I'm determined to do 14 days of fic, but I need your help. I don't want to do long, involved stories, mostly because it's already into January, and I won't have time. But I can definitely do drabbles/ficlets.
Here's how you can help:
Give me ideas.
Think of this as a 'tell me what to write' meme if you want to, and tell me what you'd like to see me write. It can be missing scenes from any of my stories, or similar to the timestamp meme that goes around occasionally, where you tell me '3 hours after this scene' or '6 months before this person arrived'.
Or just give me prompts to write. Fandom - character/pairing - word/phrase
Whatever. Just give me ideas. Right now I'm looking at needing 9-11 of these, which should be manageable in the time I have left.
So come on. Give me your best shot! Tell me what you've always wanted me to write.
(Multiple prompts will be welcome.)

Sort of late - 2008 Review
Jan. 5th, 2009 08:30 pmGot tagged by
strangevisitor7 to list my top five fav stories (that I wrote) and decided to take this on, if only to remind myself of what I've written over the past 12 months.
Top Five Favorites:
1)The Vala Chronicles - SG1/M7 - The majority of this has been written in the last year, and it was such fun to write Vala and Ezra together, despite their plane load of baggage, that I will definitely keep going. I love everything about this universe, mostly because Vala and Ezra are some of my favourite characters.
2)When Dark Meets Night - My dark Numb3rs AU. This is the universe I write when I'm stressed and bordering on the edge of insanity (which I'm sure everyone can guess). I loved writing a deeply dark Don who draws people to him with a single look, and even though you know you probably won't survive it, you get as close as you can. And I adore the Don/Megan dynamic that is coming out of this (more disturbing and insane than anything else, really). Yet, no matter how bloody and violent and disturbing I make the well-loved characters, I still want to see how much further I can go.
(PS - there will probably be loads more of this universe as I'm writing and defending my thesis, so be prepared. :) )
3)Familia Infortunium - SPN/DA AKA 'The one where Sam's a god'
This story hit me like a fricking freight train. The plot bunny hit, I wrote it all down over the next few days, sent if off to Casey for a beta who then practically exploded with glee (I'm not even joking - I have the email to prove it). It was posted practically a day later, and I have since had only the vaguest of urges to write a prequel/sequel. They don't usually last long. I still love this story, though, mostly because I didn't have to alter either show's timelines to make it work. I was very proud of that.
4)Black Market Favors - Burn Notice/M7 - This one I love because I think it has the best Michael-voice that I've ever done. And it has Ezra. Facing off with Michael (sort of). I'd just discovered Burn Notice, and I had mainlined the entire season in a single weekend, and spent the next week re-watching the episodes a gazillion times until this fic popped out. This story also started my whole 'Ezra as a spy' thing that's going on in my crossover100 table.
5)In Another Life - BtVS/Numb3rs - While this one is not yet completely posted, the majority of it was most definitely written and betaed in 2008 (as Casey and Kat can both attest to). I love it because it made me think hard about characterization and how to get pairing that on the surface seems all wrong, but would be totally great if it ever happened. I put a lot of time and effort into creating a believable Willow/Don relationship, and I think it's paid off. Also, this fic has a theme that seems to be recurring in a lot of my Willow-related plot bunnies: Big Magic has Big Consequences, and that Willow can be awesome as just Willow.
So, that's it. I won't tag anyone, because I think most people are either busy now that the holidays are over, or have already done this.
Later. :)

Two fic-related announcements!!
Nov. 23rd, 2008 10:28 pm1) I finally got my act together and created a couple of masterlists of my stories. One for crossovers and another for non-crossovers. (This is proof that I have trouble writing non-crossover stuff.) Links are in the sidebar.
2) Tomorrow (Mon) I will start posting my long whined-about BtVS/Numb3rs story "In Another Life". Yes, I still have 2 more scenes to write, and it's not completely betaed, but the first 13 parts are ready for posting. That's right. 13 parts!! Currently, there are 21 parts + Prologue + Epilogue.
Also, because I'm evil, I'll be posting on a Mon/Thur schedule, to give myself time to finish off those last scenes.
Ta for now!

WIP meme-thing
Aug. 10th, 2007 06:57 pmHere's my version of the WIP meme-thing going around. I haven't touched any of these fics in a while, but they're all pretty recent (like 6 months recent).
( SGA piece that is actually part of a longer story and is crossed with another show which I will not name because people will get the totally wrong idea and freak me out to such an extent I won't be able to write this )
( BtVS/Dresden Files fic that's been eating my brain ever since I started reading the book series, and is currently more than 6500 words )
( The sequel to 'A Tale in Three Parts' (SGA/BtVS)....nothing ever goes smooth in Atlantis )

My new addiction - blogs!
Jun. 24th, 2007 07:53 pmOne of the recipients of my energy/attention lately - while I was busy not-writing - was to create a writing blog. Well, two blogs actually, but the other one is more work-related (genetics, bioinformatics, computers, science, etc...), so I'm not sure how many of you will be interested.
The other one (The Spider's Web) is a writing blog. It's only going to have the series/stories I'm actively writing (like tth100), or have written since it opened up. Little snippets I've written that go nowhere, scenes that I think are awesome but don't have the desire to write entire fics, wishlists of stuff I would adore if people write. Wanna throw an idea my way? Come on over...
Also, completed stories and additions to ongoing series. I'm not going to post all the stuff I've written up until now, because I have a website for that.
Essentially, it's an experiment in leaving LJ behind, though I will still be using LJ as I have in the past (the only TOS I have to worry about is my hosting service's). I'm trying to decide whether or not to renew my paid LJ account when it expires at the end of July. It's also a backup of my stuff, if LJ decides to go on a deleting rampage again and fandom moves away from LJ.) If enough people actually care, I can set up an RSS feed on LJ.
So, how is this different from my LJ? It's going to have stuff that never sees the light of day on LJ, and it's pure fic. No bits of anything else. (Basically, I wanted to test out the WordPress software, and this was my excuse to do it. *g*)
Check it out if you want, it's over at: spider.whisperingfog.com

Sending out a call for a beta!
Jun. 6th, 2007 10:00 pmOkay, so I've tried this several times before in several different ways, and I've gotten nothing, so I'll try again.
I need a beta. At least one, preferably more, because I seem to be branching out into a variety of fandoms (eg. 50_smutlets - both of them) I've tried this over on several of the beta communities, but haven't really gotten any responses - probably because I mainly write crossovers.
I'm going to post this over at TtH when I get around to posting the next part of Connections (tth100), but I'd prefer someone from LJ as well.
What I need them for specifically?
Topics: grammar, sentence flow, missed typos, plot, characterization, general flow, dialogue inconsistencies (ie Brit-speak for when I get into DW and TW more)
Stories/Series:
Connections - I'm starting to lose steam on this one. I usually get a lot of my ideas by responding to feedback, so I need someone to either bounce ideas off of, or for them to go 'I'd like to see-' or 'wouldn't it be great if-'. I also need them to make sure I'm still being as true to both shows as I can be (soon I'll be bringing in more of the Buffy crew, and I'm not as comfortable writing them).
Buffy/Stargate - I have a few more ideas, and a few sequels I want to write.
50smutlets (DW) - I need someone who knows Doctor Who, knows smut, and can tell me if I'm being completely insane in ideas/characterization/logistics (yeah, you read right, 'logistics'!!!)
Buffy/Magnificent 7 - Cat's in the Cradle - I need someone familiar with M7 to help me write the guys.
In case you can't tell, a lot of this is characterization and 'does this sound right/real?'.
If anyone is at all interested, please either comment or email me (theemeraldspider AT gmail.com).
Also, if I post the Prologue for the Willow/Dresden Files crossover I started a while ago, will someone(s) please kick my ass until I write some more. I actually have the first half plotted out, but not written (6500 words, and I'm barely starting the plot).

Ho-Lee Crap!
Apr. 15th, 2007 12:51 amBefore I go to bed, I just thought I'd share...
I managed to purge two of the plot bunnies that have taken over my brain in the last few days.
Result: I just wrote close to 7000 words today.
Again -> HOLY CRAP!!!! OMG!!
I have high hopes that tomorrow I can continue this, and purge the last two bunnies from my brain so I can get back to the next parts of Connections.
Side note: I may need a quick beta reader for my
sg_btvs fic, which stars Faith. I was having problems getting it started - and ending it - and I need someone to look it over and see if it makes sense and sounds and feels like Faith.
