I'm out at my parents' 'camp' (ie. very sweet trailer that's bigger than my hole-of-an-apartment) and what do I find?

Internet access!!!

My weekend is complete!!! (We barely get cell coverage, and cable and phone lines are rare and beautiful things.)

I was anticipating no internet until I got back home Sunday night, but lo and behold - there be wireless!! Granted, it's very poor (1 meesly bar), but I'll take it. (It's so slow, I might as well be on dial-up.)

I figure if you don't know enough about your wireless router to rename and encrypt your network, you *deserve* to have everyone use it.

(You may think I'm addicted to the internet - and you may be right - but it also gives me an excuse to avoid the parents. I can't take much more. THIS IS WHY I LIVE ALONE, 9 HOURS AWAY!!!)

LOL...I was in a little fleabag motel on the Oregon Coast. Then I saw the sign that said "free wireless access" and suddenly it was the best motel I'd stayed in for *years*. It's funny how something so simple can just rock your day.

Well, it was a nice surprise, until my dad went visiting other trailers, and mentioned it to the first group of people he met.

Guess who's internet it was? Guess what they did? (ie. they went and locked it down immediately)

I'm still ticked at my dad about that. You don't go blabbing that someone has an unlocked wireless network, because they'll go and LOCK it!!

::sigh::

LOL! Oh, that's too bad. Has your dad learned his lesson?

When I lived at my old place, there were anywhere between 2 and 6 unsecured networks to piggyback onto at any time. I loved it. Here, there are NONE. Not any secured or unsecured. Of course, that's mostly because out of 5 units in this building, only one is sold. The other buildings are in similar shape. Maybe once the rest of the place sells it'll get better. Of course, by then I'll have my own network. I've got the router, I'm just too damn lazy to set it up.

Well, everyone in my building is smart enough to secure their networks - most people are. And I *hope* Dad's learned his lesson, though I don't think there will be another opportunity like that, there.

So I take it you don't have many neighbours yet? At least you have the quiet - I'm in the basement of the building, and get to hear every single person who walks in or out of the building (front *and* back stairs). However, since that's the extent of the annoyances, and since it's nice and cool here, I think I'll stay. (There's a humidex of 37C today, but my apartment is at a cool 21C....there are advantages to living in a hole.) :)

LOL...just one neighbor, two doors down. It's nice and quiet, like you said. Sadly, unlike my last place, it gets a lot of exposure. So it can be kind of warm. Today's not so bad, but when it gets really warm, it can be miserable.
