I was there two years ago, too, and it was one of the most enjoyable times I've had, ever. The people were great, the panels were fun, and it was just so wonderful to be able to talk with people about fanfic.
I was planning on going this year, even paid the money and registered, but between the health crap and my work problems, I just couldn't pull it off. Like you said, being responsible sucks. Big time.
I'm on the writercon LJ community and it's just like a kick in the head every time I see a post from someone. I should just unsubscribe (or leave the community, or whatever it is you're supposed to do) but I just keep tormenting myself with it.
This weekend's my birthday, so I'll be plenty busy. But I'd rather have been plenty busy in Atlanta :-(
